Throughout this exhibition, I invite you to explore the evolution of my creative expression spanning several decades, culminating in the art I create today.
My exploration has taken me through various themes, media, and concepts. Initially, my canvas reflected the rich tapestry of South African ethnic heritage, capturing its cultural essence in vibrant strokes.
The allure and rhythm of dance captivated my imagination, leading me to delve into its excitement and sensuality as another thematic pursuit.
Our country's magnificent wildlife provided boundless inspiration, a subject I joyously depicted in my paintings.
The diverse landscapes of South Africa have always fascinated me, offering an endless array of scenes to interpret across different mediums—from the delicate strokes of pastels to the fluidity of watercolors, the versatility of acrylics, and the richness of oil paint.
More recently, I have delved into Judaic themes, embracing this integral aspect of my identity and incorporating it into my artistic exploration.
A recent invitation to demonstrate abstract art sparked a reevaluation of my techniques and materials, challenging me to push beyond conventional boundaries.
In the past, I've experimented with unconventional materials, inspired by the notion in Conceptual Art that "the media is a metaphor for the meaning." This exploration, influenced by my postgraduate studies in Visual Art, led me to find inspiration in unexpected sources—from puzzle pieces to CDs, strings, and zippers.
Today, I find myself captivated by the infinite possibilities of unlikely materials, continually pushing the boundaries of artistic expression.
I believe that my art is deeply autobiographical, offering a glimpse into my inner world and my interpretation of personal reality. Ultimately, I aspire for my work to resonate with you, the audience, offering relevance and connection in our shared human experience.
